Meet your art teacher: Welcome to the first season of Artful Yard art camps for children at Flower Street Studio! My name is Tara McConnell and I I love connecting with young people in the creative process, and I so enjoy the energy that children bring to the studio as they explore and share their many ideas. I am so excited to open the studio for the 2026 summer season and see this dream come to life with your children. I hold a Colorado state license in art education for grades k-12, an MFA in visual art, and an MA in integrated arts and education. I have taught art in the public schools, art pods for toddlers, private lessons for adults, and I have facilitated several community-based projects in various settings. This summer is full of fun and exciting week-long sessions that each reflect a theme for inspiration and learning.
About Artful Yard at Flower Street Studio: At Artful Yard we believe that children are hard-wired for creativity. Exploring the creative process for young minds is crucial for their natural learning and enjoyment of making. Our art sessions are designed with age appropriate projects and media that encourage inspiration, learning, skill development, art mediums and tools, and lots of playful fun! Sessions are for students between the ages of 5-11 (generally). Sessions cost $250 per student and $225 for each additional sibling (USE CODE SIBLING25 when adding a sibling at check out). Camps are capped at 12 students to foster a sense of community among classes and ensure that all students receive adequate attention and care. Parents can choose between morning sessions (9am-noon) or afternoon sessions (1pm-4pm) during the weeks when sessions are offered. See the camps and dates below to register for summer 2026.

FAQ
We’re so excited to welcome your child to art camp! Below are answers to some common questions parents have. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out—we always want families to feel informed and comfortable.
What ages can attend art camp?
Our camps are designed for children ages 5-11. We can be flexible depending on the situation and enrollment numbers in the class. If you need an exception, please contact us to coordinate. Projects are planned to be engaging, creative, and age-appropriate for this group.
What will the kids be doing at camp?
Each camp session includes a variety of hands-on art projects. Children may explore painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, sculpture, and other creative activities. The focus is on creativity, experimentation, playful learning, and building confidence through art.
Does my child need art experience?
Not at all! Camp is perfect for both beginners and kids who already love making art. Every child is encouraged to create in their own way and they will be provided instruction to meet their skill-level needs.
How many children are in each session?
We keep camp small and personal so every child gets attention and support. Sessions are limited to 12 campers.
Where is the camp located?
Camp takes place in a private home art studio in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The exact address and arrival details will be provided after registration.
What should my child bring?
Please send your child with:
• Clothes that can get messy
• Layers for outdoor days
• A water bottle
• A nut-free snack
• Sunscreen for time outdoors.
All art materials and tools are provided.
Will my child bring artwork home?
Yes! Children will bring home the art they create. Many families enjoy seeing the creative progress throughout the week. Projects may be sent home daily or at the week of they need more drying/work time to complete.
Are snacks provided?
Families should send a nut-free snack with their child each day. We take a short break to eat and recharge.
What if my child has allergies or medical needs?
Please list any allergies, medical concerns, or special considerations on the registration form. This helps us create a safe environment for all campers.
Drop-off and pick-up
Drop-off and pick-up will take place at the scheduled camp times.
For safety reasons:
• Children must be signed out by a parent or approved adult
• Please notify us in advance if someone new will pick up your child
Pick-ups later than 10 minutes after the schedule pickup time may result in a late fee of $15 per half hour to cover additional supervision time.
Behavior expectations
We strive to create a kind, creative, and respectful environment. Campers are expected to treat others, materials, and the space with care. If a child is repeatedly disruptive or unsafe, we may contact parents and discuss next steps.
Illness policy
To help keep everyone healthy, please keep your child home if they have:
• Fever
• Vomiting or stomach illness
• Contagious symptoms
If a child becomes ill during camp, parents will be contacted for prompt pickup.
Emergency & safety procedures
Basic first aid supplies are kept on site. In the event of an emergency, parents will be contacted immediately. By registering, families authorize the instructor to seek appropriate medical care if necessary.
Photo permission
Occasionally we may take photos of artwork or campers (without identifying information) to share on our website or social media. A photo permission option will be included in the registration form.
What if my child misses a day?
We can only offer make-up days for missed sessions if space allows in another camp/on another day. We will do our best to help your child enjoy their remaining time at camp.
